Tembec announced production shutdowns at its Pine Falls, Manitoba newsprint mill, including a one-week shutdown effective September 2, 2007 and a four day shutdown, effective December 24th, 2007.
“The combined effect of these shutdowns will result in a reduction in production of close to 6,000 tonnes of newsprint. The continuing weak newsprint market, coupled with the recent strengthening of the Canadian dollar warrant these temporary curtailments.” said Chris Black, Senior Vice President, Newsprint Division. The Pine Falls mill has an annual production capacity of 180,000 tonnes and employs 320 people. Management has met with employees to inform them of the Company’s decision.
