In 1999, Toscotec started designig Steel Yankee Dryers combining their experience in making steel cylinders with modern instruments of analysis, such as FEM. A year later, in 2000, Toscotec launched itself onto the tissue market with the installation of its first grooved steel dryers, which was manufactured with adequate welding and bolting primarily made of certified carbon steel metal plates, and was therefore intrinsically safe. At the time of its instruction onto the market that year, the steel YD promoted by Toscotec (TT SYD) was considered only for its potential application on small, narrow and slow tissue machines, and did not worry the other big suppliers. www.toscotec.com Nobody was taking into consideration the fact that this idea had come from the company’s extensive experience in the conventional steel paper dryer industry, which started in the ‘60’s and incluted over 1000 references worldwide. And nobody was aware that Toscotec, being established in Lucca in 1948 and having supplied the paper industry with 2039 pressure vessels, had accumulated extensive knowledge on the behaviour of steel property in paper and tissue application.
